American Lutheran Church (1930-1960), Commission on Mexican Missions, Minutes 1931-1960 [microform].

This series contains the typed minutes of the Commission on Mexican Missions (CMM), originally the Board on Mexican Missions. Meetings were held in various churches of San Antonio, San Juan, and other locations in Texas, as well as periodically in Mexico. Some meetings were held during the Texas District annual conventions. Earlier Mexican Mission minutes can be found with the Joint Synod of Ohio records. Also included are Executive Committee meeting minutes and Texas District Committee on Appeals (1932). Occasional people present, aside from the board members, included the ALC president, the Texas District president, and workers in the Mexican missions. The format of the minutes changes over time. Initially the minutes were quite detailed, with a narrative feel. Agendas first appear in the mid-1940s. By the 1950s a more standard approach to minutes, with agenda and outlined points, was adopted. The minutes include reports of the schools and churches supported by the missions, giving membership, baptism, and confirmation statistics. Financial reports, inspections. By the 1950s copies of the reports given to the board are present, not merely report summaries contained within the minutes themselves. Topics covered in the minutes include improving mission-supported schools by increasing textbooks; disciplining errant pastors; building churches, parsonages, and schools; receiving support from the ALC Women's Missionary Federation; changes in board membership; supporting theology students who would then enter the mission field; expansion into Mexico and Latin America; Lutheran Bible School; medical mission programs; publishing efforts; and Iglesia Luterana Mexicana.

The ALC met as a delegate body biennially in October, the time and place of which was determined by the president and Board of Trustees. All boards and standing committees sent their reports to the president at least sixty days before the convention, so that he could have them printed and sent to the delegates twenty days before the biennial meeting.
